The Information Technology Services department has launched a phishing alert button that allows you to report a potential phishing email via your Outlook desktop application, Outlook on the web or Outlook mobile application. This will authorize the Information Technology Service department to review the email and take immediate action. We ask you to report all phishing emails using the Phishing Alert Report button and then delete the message.
Here's an actual example of a recent phishing email that was sent to BTC Students and Employees:
If you clicked on a link within the phishing email or responded to the email, please update your password by going to myaccount.microsoft.com and use the update password tool or contact the ITS Help Desk at 608 757-7711 for assistance.
How to report phishing emails using the Outlook 365 Desktop App, Outlook 365 Web App, and Outlook Mobile App on Android and iOS.
From Outlook 365 Desktop App, Click "Once" on the suspicious email and from the Outlook ribbon "Home" tab menu click on the "Phishing Alert Report" button |

Next a pop-up window will appear with the option of "Phish Alert" once you click on "Phish Alert" button the suspicious email will be forwarded to our Infrastructure security team for evaluation.
A confirmation screen will appear to acknowledge the action.
Also, it's recommended that you delete the message after reporting it. |

From Outlook 365 Web App, click "Once" on the suspicious email and from the Outlook menu click on the "Phishing Alert" icon

Alternatively, you can find the Phish Alert Button by clicking the ellipses (three dots) in the top right corner of an open email.
Or, in the message list, select the message or messages you want to report.
Above the reading pane, select "Report" and choose "Report phishing" or "Report junk" to report the message sender.

Next a pop-up window will appear with the option of "Report phishing" or "Report as phishing" once you click on "OK" or "Report" button the suspicious email will be forwarded to our Infrastructure security team for evaluation.

From the opened email, tap the ellipses (three dots) at the top right of the screen.
The "Phish Alert" is listed in the add-ins.
Once you selected the Phish Alert add-in, you will be brought to the screen to confirm that you want to report the email. From this screen, you will tap the Mobile "Phish Alert" button to confirm submission. |
